Bobo, Trumbauersville's Therapy Dog!

Dear Trumbauersville Elementary Parents & Guardians:

We are excited to share that Trumbauersville Elementary will soon welcome a certified therapy dog to our school community! Bobo, a four-year-old Border Collie owned by our Invention Specialist, Beth Fox, recently earned his therapy dog certification through the Alliance of Therapy Dogs. You may view a presentation about Bobo here, and the district’s therapy dog board policy here!

Benefits of a Therapy Dog
Research has shown that a therapy dog can contribute to a variety of positive outcomes for students, including:

Incr- Increased self-esteem and confidence
- Lower blood pressure and reduced stress
- Improved social skills and problem-solving
- Enhanced positive mood
- Overall improvements in well-being

 Concerns and Considerations
We understand that introducing an animal to the school environment requires thoughtful planning. Please note the following:

- Bobo will be groomed regularly. While he does shed, he is brushed often.
- Bobo will only interact with students and staff who choose to engage with him. This ensures respect for anyone who may be uncomfortable or fearful around dogs. Research also shows that supervised interaction can gradually reduce fear of animals
- Bobo will remain on a leash and under his handler’s control at all times.
- Students and staff will receive guidance on the therapy dog’s role and appropriate ways to interact with him.

If you have any questions or concerns, we encourage you to reach out. If you prefer that your child not interact with the therapy dog, please contact us so that we can make appropriate accommodations.

Sincerely,

Dr. Adam Schmucker, Principal – aschmucker@qcsd.org
